Oh babe, it was long before I met you! Maybe because, because I wanted something more than this silly round of ordinary things I was doing. I think I felt that, that you were someone special, not just a suburban housewife. Then, when I discovered that you were bored with Ian:, I thought maybe . . .\n\n\n\n<\/div><\/div>

Of course you do! Look, will we understand each other? You know that I love Martha, but we both know that you can love someone very much and still be attracted to someone else at the same time.\n\n\n\n<\/div><\/div>

Oh Jerry, you know what I mean: you read about it every day in the papers, married people who find somebody else attractive and do something about it, then end up in the divorce court or worse.\n\n\n\n<\/div><\/div>

Because they’re not honest.\n\n\n\n<\/div><\/div>

Are we honest, Jerry? Sneaking off once a week to meet secretly? I haven’t told Ian.\n\n\n\n<\/div><\/div>

Martha doesn’t know about us, and she’s not going to.\n\n\n\n<\/div><\/div>

I meant that we’re honest with each other.\n\n\n\n<\/div><\/div>

We always knew neither of us wanted a divorce, or a scandal, and we didn’t want to hurt anybody, and we’re not. What Ian: and Martha don’t know won’t hurt them, and in the meantime we have something that’s important to us both.\n\n\n\n<\/div><\/div>

They’re stupid or greedy! They lose perspective and make seeing each other the most important thing in the world. They get careless.\n\n\n\n<\/div><\/div>
